The EOBP for Solar Energy project is funded by ESA as a series of EO Best Practices. Solar photovoltaic (PV) technology is a key driver in the renewable energy sector and is projected to account for 21% of global power generation by 2030, increasing to 43% by 2050. Earth observation (EO) technologies can significantly contribute to the solar energy industry by enabling various use cases across the business processes, from site selection and design optimisation to monitoring and maintenance. EO can help organisations throughout the industry by providing independent, spatially-consistent, and scalable geospatial data that is regularly updated and covers large areas. The main purpose of this activity is to identify pressing end-user needs across the solar energy industry’s business processes and understand how the current capabilities of EO can address these challenges. By bringing together solar energy industry & EO experts, this project defines best practices for the solar energy users to integrate impactful EO products into their business processes.
